The Big Turnip

先日、彫刻家の佐藤忠良さんがご逝去された。

私は数日前の新聞で知りましたが、様々なメディアを通じて伝えられているのを知り、あらためて人々に愛された彫刻家だったのだなぁと、実感。

ご本人が東北出身（宮城県）ということもあり、今、幼い時期を過ごした故郷にどんな思いを寄せているのだろうと、考える。

その名を知らなくても、絵本「おおきなかぶ」の挿絵を見れば、懐かしい気持ちになる人が多いはず。

美大時代に読んだ著書「触ることから始めよう」は、今でも私のバイブル。

素晴らしい作品を数々残してくれた日本を代表する彫刻家、

佐藤忠良さん。

The greatest sculptor Churyo Sato died the other day.

I knew it with the newspaper a few days ago.

I realize how he was loved very much by a lot of people, because I have seen the news through various media. Then I knew that He spend his child hood in Tohoku.I wonder how his thoughts were going.

Even though people do not know his name, I think many people must know the illustration of a children's book "The Big Turip". Besides his essay "Sawarukotokarahajimeyou"-Start by touching- is still my Bible, I read it first when I was an art university student.

Sculptor, Churyo Sato on behalf of Japan which left a splendid work a lot. Thank you very much.
